Since 1979: The Proudlock Story
Family-run since 1979, Proudlock’s (House & Home) is a vibrant, multi-department store in Alnwick offering everything from hardware to beds, plus a summer garden-furniture marquee. Still guided by the same reliability and customer-first values, we serve locals, holiday-home owners, and hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Our online presence (launched in 2018) showcases departments, brands, services, news, and our furniture catalogue, with phone orders for smaller items and nationwide delivery for larger ones.

Four Decades on the Cobbles
Geoffrey Proudlock opened the first hardware store in 1979, following his father’s entrepreneurial path. By the early 2000s, “Proudlock’s” had grown to five stores and expanded into broader household goods. Today, Geoffrey’s daughter, Sally, runs the business while Geoffrey enjoys semi-retirement (and still pops in). Throughout, the family values of reliability and customer focus have remained at the heart of what we do.

Our Alnwick Home: Three Floors & a Marquee
Our flagship shop overlooks the cobbled streets of Alnwick, the Northumberland market town famed for its castle and gardens. Set across three floors plus a rear marquee, departments are clearly laid out and stocked with quality products—from screws to beds—while the marquee becomes a sun-trap showcase for garden furniture in summer. With stunning coastline and a national park within 10 miles, tourism thrives; many visitors call us “the best shop in Alnwick” and return year after year. Browsing is a popular day out—no obligation to buy, and the ever-changing stock means there’s always something new to discover. We also work closely with local holiday-home owners, offering tailored furniture and furnishing services.
